Today marks our four year anniversary…isn’t that clever of us to get married on a long weekend? It’s crazy how the years have, quite literally, flown by and I love to take the time to reflect back on the special day that changed our lives forever. We’re still young with much growing ahead of us, but I cherish every moment big and small that we’ve shared together.
For those of you that don’t know, Steven and I met in a bakery not that long ago. He was working at Barb’s Bakery & Bistro (owned by his cousins), a local favourite in my hometown of Salt Spring Island. I had applied for job after spending two months away with my family in Hawaii and not sure what to do next. Steven was meant to train me, but let’s be real, I was already a fantastic barista and quite versed in the ways of latté art.
What I didn’t know is that Steven already knew who I was (small island issues) and had begged his cousin to hire the cute girl because he wanted to date her. As fate would have it, I was hired. We started dating two weeks later and eight months into our relationship Steven popped the question. Ten months later we were married and moving back to Alberta, Steven’s home.
For some people, they may have thought we were rushing into things or that we wanted to start a family right away. But as someone who was happily single three years prior, I can attest to the fact that that was so not the case. I knew within those first two weeks that Steven and I were going to go the distance, and you know what? I’ve never looked back.
I absolutely love marriage. Sure, sometimes picking up clothes off the floor and collecting dishes from around the house may grind my gears a little, but let’s look at the reality…I get to live with my best friend. I get to experience life with him by my side and I’m not sure it get’s any better than that.
Though I could go on and on, I think I’ll stop here. Enjoy a little peek into our wedding day and, of course, if you have any questions for us about married life please feel free to leave them in the comments below.
Happy long weekend everyone!
