The Love List - Life, Set Sail

I’m a little ashamed that it’s been so long since my last lifestyle post, but to make up for lost time I’ve compiled a love list of all of my latest obsessions…whether you’re looking for something new to watch or listen to, or maybe inspiration for a sneaky Christmas purchase, it’s all there. Hope you enjoy!

The Love List - Life, Set Sail

To Watch
If you knew the amount of hours I spent watching things you’d probably expect me to me ginormous. What can I say, I appreciate good work whether it be my latest indie film obsession or a new YouTube discovery.

The other night I watched Palo Alto which came out June of last year, though somehow I’m only just discovering it now. It’s a film based on a book by James Franco (my ultimate celebrity man-crush) and directed by Gia Coppola. I am a huge huge fan of the Coppola’s and like most of their films, this one does not disappoint. I love the actors (Emma Roberts and James Franco) and the soundtrack, oh the soundtrack. Not to mention the lack of overly-chatty dialogue that I seem to be so fond of. Seriously, just go watch it…like now.

On the flip side of things I recently came across the YouTube channel of fellow Calgarian and beauty blogger Allana Davison aka allanarama – how I’ve never met this woman is completely beyond me. She liked a few of my Instagram photos the other day and of course being the proper creep I am did some investigating. Her beauty channel is the stuff of dreams, not overly edited and refreshingly humble. She’s funny, she’s beautiful, and oh yah, she’s damn good at makeup too. I think I watched a good five or six videos in one night, it’s that good. I will make you my friend Allana Davison I WILL! That is, if I didn’t just scare you off.

To Listen
There’s not much I love more than pushing my music on other people. I’m just that confident (cocky?) about my tastes and don’t understand when people don’t feel the same about the songs I like. It’s like when you find out someone doesn’t like Lord Of The Rings and you’re just like what’s wrong with you – seriously I like you a little less now. But before I end up really offending someone let me just share what I’ve been listening to lately.

1. The Slits rendition of I Heard It Through The Grapevine – British rock band 1979

2. I Know There’s Something Going On by Frida – found this gem thanks to my fave show, Scream Queens, sung by Anni-Frid Lyngstad (Frida) of ABBA

3. If you’re in the mood for groovy electric feels – Don’t Sing (ft. Benny Sings) by Data

4. Super chill and perfect for waking up or winding down – I’m loving Discoloration by Dawn Golden

5. Also on my Morning Music playlist and currently on repeat – Swingin’ Party by Kindness

Everything Else
Today I’m diving into (and loving) the new Fall/Winter issue of our local Dote Magazine which a friend best described to me as Kinfolk meets Martha Stewart. It’s such a good feeling seeing people you know being recognized for the talents whether it be local shop owners or creatives. Since moving to Calgary four years ago it has been such a pleasure getting to know our community which is full of truly wonderful people.

When it comes to slapping things on my face, my skin has been drinking up the skincare offerings from Fresh. I recently received the Skincare Affair Set which is a perfect match for my dehydrated and sensitive skin. The Sugar Lip Party Favours on the other hand are the sweetest indulgence for my dry Winter lips.

And I suddenly just realized how long this post is getting so I think now is a good time for me to ask, what’s on your love list lately?

  • Love this post Brittany! I’ll be sure to check out the tunes on my day off tomorrow :). I always love how supportive you are of your local community and this list points out some serious Calgary gems. That song I mentioned yesterday, “I Will Wait For You” by Souls, is currently on my love list, along with “Gibraltar” by Beirut and “Heart Is Full” by Miike Snow. I hope you’ll have listen – I think you’ll like them :).

    • Thanks lady! I’ve definitely been listening to Songza ALL day…actually trying to find that really upbeat song that came on at MC (when the dancers came on). Do you remember the name? I love all of your song suggestions, but particularly Miike Snow who I looooove so much already. Have you ever heard Sylvia? It’s so good. You keep throwing tunes my way and I’ll keep listening 😉 xx

      • Unfortunately I don’t remember the name of the song :(. If you say some of the words it would help my memory! I think I had heard it on the Songza playlist “Blogged Pop Party”, so give that a listen and see if it pops up :). When I googled Sylvia I got a country singer from the 80s. Is there a song name I can search too, as I have a feeling she ain’t the one! Haha! Another listening suggestion would be anything by Borns, but particularly “Electric Love” and “Seeing Stars”.

        • Ahh okay I will check out that playlist then! I thought it was on the Blogged 50 one. So Sylvia is actually the name of a Miike Snow song, sorry I should’ve been more clear haha. I’ll go check out that band now 😉

  • I just want to take a moment to shamelessly say that the new Justin Bieber album is actually good. It keeps popping up in Spotify playlists and I actually like most of the songs. It’s odd.

I don’t know if it is just to cold weather but I have seriously been craving brunch every weekend. I’m always bugging my partner to get brunch with me but he’s too busy all the time to go on a proper brunch date which makes me sad! I just want warm Belgian waffles and crispy bacon and freshly squeezed orange juice! xx

    • No way girl you OWN that! I will 100% agree with you on this. Who would’ve thought by the end of 2015 we would all be Beliebers? Sorry is totally my jam.

And as far as breakfast foods go, you are totally a girl after my own heart. I would eat breakfast for every meal if I could (and often I do). My ultimate brekky is seedy toast with a side of avocado, poached eggs and bacon…and of course a giant glass of fresh squeezed orange juice! xx
