CARING FOR COLOUR PROCESSED HAIR

Haircare - Life, Set Sail

The last time I visited the salon I really wanted a blonder look to take me into the Spring/Summer season. The problem was that many of the times I’ve gone lighter it has completely destroyed my already dry hair. Well, no more!

When Emma Roberts wrapped season one of Scream Queens and got her fresh blonde bob with the help of Olaplex I was intrigued…first of all, what is it and why should I care if I use it or not? After a little research I discovered that is it basically a product that you add to the hair colour that significantly reduces breakage during processing. It actually makes your hair stronger…wait, what? This means than brunettes can go from their natural colour to platinum in one visit which, lets face it, is a lot more desirable than coming back over and over just to get a little bit closer to their end goal.

I feel like I have to add this right now, this post is not sponsored by Olaplex haha. I’m just genuinely excited about never having to worry about sacrificing the health of my hair for colour again. And I’m sure there are may of you, like me, who will be stoked to hear that too!

So anyway, if you want to go blonde you should definitely look into this service. I got mine done at our local Hedkandi salon in Bankers Hall. They even have a take-home treatment which I’ve been using once a week that will continue to strengthen my hair until I choose to go to the salon again.

Next up we’ve got to talk about toners! Now if you are already blonde or have been in the past you will already know the importance of a purple shampoo/conditioner. The reason to use this is to keep your locks from looking brassy. There are a lot of products on the market, but I’ve especially been loving the Fabuloso Platinum Colour Intensifying Conditioner which is basically a makeover in a bottle and free from yucky stuff like ammonia and peroxide. All you need is three minutes, once a week…done.

Of course what would proper haircare be without the appropriate shampoo and conditioner? If you have colour treated hair make sure what you’re using is friendly to your hair type! I’ve been using the Bumble and Bumble Full Potential line because it’s both colour friendly and strengthens hair. Oh yah, it smells amazing too.

When it comes to styling, always remember to apply a heat protectant or hair primer first. Good ones will product from both thermal and UV rays, but many of them do a bunch of other stuff too like detangle hair, reduce frizz, and condition. My favourites are the Unite 7 Seconds Leave In Conditioner and the Bumble and Bumble Primer.

If you can get away with it, minimal heat styling will always help to repair and strengthen damaged hair. And if you can’t then a hair mask now and then never hurt anyone!

  • I know you always say your hair is never shiny, but in this post it is just that! Your tips must be working for you because it looks so healthy! And I know that is a serious struggle when you go blonde. I also love how you styled yourself for the shoot – the delicate necklace and blouse really suit you :).

    • Halle-freakin-lujah! It’s about time hahaha. As always, thanks for the love and support. See you two/three on Sunday 😉 xx
