There has been a lot of changes happening around our household lately, but the gist of it is that we’re moving. There is a lot still up in the air and life has been in a word, chaotic. The good thing is that I’ve been using this opportunity to declutter my life.
I’ve never been very sentimental when it comes to holding onto things, but even so I am surprised at the amount of crap we have accumulated in the past four years. If you follow me on snapchat you’ll know what I’m talking about, it’s gotten a bit out of control.
So while I’ve been preparing for the move I’ve been getting rid of a lot and you know what? It feels damn good. Like, I physically feel better, lighter. Clothing and housewares have been going to a local women’s shelter, furniture is being sold online, and everything else is being given away to friends. I can see our life transforming before my very eyes and I like it. I like it a lot.
Before you ask where we’re moving, let me tell you, I’m not one hundred percent sure. Like I said, there are still some things up in the air, but while we wait for everything to sort itself out we will be staying with my in-laws for the month of May.
Though the future is uncertain, I have peace in knowing that things are changing one way or another (and for the better). I think Steven and I both need a bit of a fresh start and getting rid of all this weight is a good place to begin. I never want my life to be overloaded with excess and I think that’s something that we’re so easily distracted by in todays world. Living in a place with an abundance of wealth there always seems to be this focus on what we have and whether or not it’s more than our neighbours. It makes me sick to think this is all some peoples lives amount to.
Of course I would be a hypocrite to say I don’t like nice things (case in point, my beautiful new Céline sunnies), but I refuse to let them dictate my happiness.
I know there are books on this topic, how getting rid of excess can lead to a happier and fuller life and without reading any of them, I get it. So while I slowly get rid of things one by one, I look forward to getting a few steps closer to a simpler life. As always, I will keep you posted along the way!
