The coloured liner trend is everywhere these days and whether or not you’re a fan of it, I am a big believer that trends can be adjusted to suit each individuals personal style.
I’m a pretty simple person when it comes to my look, not at all eccentric but always comfortable. The same goes with beauty. Instead of taking trends as they’re given, I like to simplify and morph them into something suitable for everyday wear. A bold pop of colour on the lids paired with a natural, fresh face, makes things a lot more interesting doesn’t it?
Taking the classic winged liner as a base for your look, there are so many variations you can use that take very little effort regardless your skill set. Play with cut creases (I’ve done one where I’ve lined the lash line and one without), accent lines, a simple flick, or hey, just fill the whole thing in! My trick for sharp lines when you’re using a pencil liner is to touch up the edges with a short angled brush dipped in makeup remover (I use Bioderma). This way you aren’t having to sharpen your pencil over and over again and even if you do mess up your lines a little, it’s a problem that’s easily fixed.
The one thing I especially love about coloured liners (or even just white) is that they are a lot more forgiving than the classic black. Though they might be a little more out there, they are also a lot less harsh…and so much fun for Summer! One of my absolute favourite looks has been a touch of white liner sans mascara…and something about having a tan makes it look even better too, wins all around!
I used the Make Up For Ever Aqua XL pencils as my product of choice for this look, why? Because they go on very smooth and creamy, set quickly (but not too quickly), and are waterproof which make them the perfect match for Summer wear (sweaty festivals anyone?). Of course there are a ton of brands now offering coloured eyeliners, so choose your favourite and don’t be afraid to get creative!
Which look is your favourite?
